After the Second World War, West Germany developed into a powerful and prosperous capitalist state, while East Germany, under communist rule, lagged behind economically. Since reunification in 1990, the renewal of the infrastructure in former East Germany has stretched state resources to the limit.

CBM activities The ecclesias in former West Germany are well-established and self-supporting. The CBM supports an annual Bible weekend. Little work has yet been done in former East Germany.
