Egypt is situated in the north east corner of Africa and includes the Sinai peninsular. The dominant feature of the country is the river Nile which for centuries has flooded every year in August. It is most famous for its ancient history but today it is a modern Arab republic and its official religion is Islam. However, there are around 9 million Coptic Christians making up around 10% of the population.
